My journey as a lover of our natural world began as a young girl living on a farm in rural Northern Nevada. Many of my formative childhood memories involve playing barefoot in seasonal streams, creating make believe worlds within sagebrush bushes, hiking in remote mountain ranges with my father, and cloud gazing under trees.
This love of earth grew into a passion for travel as I became a young woman. Witnessing the most beautiful, untouched landscapes on our planet consumed my spirit in my twenties. When I was 24 I flew to Nepal to trek to Mt. Everest Basecamp. It was during this incredible journey of self-discovery that I connected with my higher purpose. In contrast to the indescribable beauty of the most sacred mountain valley on our planet, the human presence of trash heaps, littered scraps of candy bar wrappers, and the incalculable number of single-use plastic water bottles became glaringly offensive for the first time in my life. Afterwards I traveled to 8 other countries in Southeast Asia where I experienced the highs of swimming with sea turtles in Indonesia and the lows of watching children wade through literal rivers of plastics in the Philippines. My life was forever changed.
I spent the next few years reducing my footprint bit by bit, but found it difficult to find all of the high performing, plastic-free products I needed in one place online- let alone locally in my community. In 2019, The Waste Less Shop was born.
I have found so much fulfillment in connecting with this community, learning about beautiful solutions to reduce our footprint through daily action, supporting artisans and entrepreneurs who share in my love for our planet and people, and watching how the brand has grown with me as I have transitioned from maiden to mother. I find great joy in the slowness of winter, the sounds of spring, the warmth of summer sun, and the beauty of autumn. Connecting with the natural rhythms of our planet through my work fills my soul.
